Ready...Set....

GO???

It's Thanksgiving already? In a few days it will be. Are you ready?

This will be my 12th 'official' thanksgiving although it's only my '8th' celebrating it here in the land of Uncle Sam. The school I taught in Taiwan celebrate Thanksgiving Day believe it or not. Taiwanese celebrating an American tradition? Yep but only in that school and some other schools that follow American curriculum. If I remember it correctly, the day is a school holiday as well...although, they would usually move it on a Friday to have a long weekend.

Anyway, we don't do anything real big on TD around here. We used to celebrate it with some of hubby's family. We don't do that anymore because the one who used to host the TD dinner moved out of state already. I am hoping that one day, we will be able to do that again. We can even host it here in our place but not this year. We're not ready for any big events around here...yet.

I just hope that when the day comes when I host a TD dinner, this won't happen to me.

Wardrobe Overhaul

It’s getting cold out here. I can’t walk around the house anymore in just my usual get-up of shorts and shirt especially in the morning. I have not done any winter shopping [yet] so I have no choice but to put on a pair of jeans and a jacket to keep me warm. It’s not very comy if you ask me especially when it’s worn around the house. I want to wear something soft and more comfortable while lounging at home even if I’m working so jeans are at the bottom of the list so something made of fleece will be very much welcome as long as they don’t look like pajamas.

As I was looking for some comfortable clothes to put on yesterday, I realized that I really need to do a major overhaul as far as wardrobe is concerned and not just for my winter wardrobe but on the lingerie department as well. I’ll be honest. I don’t shop much. Believe it or not, the husband has to somehow ‘coax’ me to go shopping for clothes most of the time. There’s even a time when he bought me lingerie simply because he liked it. Did I like it though? Let’s just say that’s the first and the last time he bought me something like that. Aha! Seriously, I like to choose my own intimate apparel. Don’t you? But given my very simple taste [read: not very adventurous] with such things you wouldn’t see me going through sexy garter belts in the store. But just like a lot of men, I’m sure my man would want to see me in one. Maybe one day when I feel I look good enough to put one on.

I'm Alive....

It's a song collaboration by Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews. The lyrics are very inspiring. I've heard it once before but it's not only after I saw the CMA performance that I actually paid attention to it. The collaboration is unexpected by many but I have to say, it's one of the good ones I've heard so far.

I looked it up in You Tube. As expected, there's quite a few that popped up. At first I thought of sharing the CMA performance but I changed my mind when I came across a particular video that showcase some rather eye-opening visuals.

LIghtning Speed!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Charter. All opinions are 100% mine.

For a WAHM [work-at-home-Mom] like me, a reliable computer is one of the 2 very important things I need. The other very important thing...internet. Not just any internet but very fast internet connection like DSL or cable. Dial up will not work for my kind of job so that’s not even an option for me anymore because I download stuff for work. I’ve been working online for more than 6 years now and I’ve tried both DSL and cable for my internet connection. DSL is what I use right now. But before that, I had cable. I have to say, I like cable better because it’s faster. Why am I using DSL now? It’s because of some problems I've had with my cable company. Their connection maybe faster but it kept on going out while I’m in the middle of work. In the long run, the faster connection they offer didn't matter anymore because of their downtime is just killing my work. I had no choice so I had to let them go and switch to DSL.

I would love to go back to cable ASAP. But right now, no other cable company offers services around here. I am anxiously waiting for the day when charter ultra fast 60 will become available in my neck of the woods. Lucky people of St. Louis are already enjoying lightning speed internet because of the 60 Mbps that Ultra60 offers. I’m pretty sure multi-tasking will be a breeze for me once I get this kind of speed on my internet connection. I can only imagine how much easier my tasks will be with that kind of speed. I read that Charter’s Ultra60 is spreading out in other parts of the country and I can only hope that my area will be one of the lucky places it reaches in the near future…like maybe next month? Pretty, please? With cherry on top? I can dream, right?

Busy Week

It's been a busy couple of weeks for me. When it rains, it pours. After months of waiting for work to come, it finally did a couple weeks ago. And as fast as it came, it was also gone in an instant. That's understandable because there's hundreds of us waiting.

As expected, it's all gone now. I was virtually tied down to my computer for days. As soon as I finished my chores and what nots, I would get down to work. I am hopeful there will be more to be released later on today.

And for other news....weather here has been really pleasant. We usually wake up with a temperature in the 50s/60s and it warms up to the 80s during the day. It would be great if the little one and I can spend some time outside but we can't because of work. Maybe I can change my schedule for my other job and free up a couple of hours during the day so she can run around the yard.

And because of the cold [cool?] temperature, most of the grass has turned brown already in the backyard...not in the front yard though. The backyard doesn't get as much sunlight because of the trees so the frost stays longer on the grass. I'm sure the front yard will also turn brown in the coming weeks.

That's about it. I am crossing my fingers that more work will be coming my way in the days to come. It's the holiday season already and the little one's list is longer by the day so Mommy and Daddy, err...Santa, need work to earn more, eh?

Same-O, Same-O

Isn't that what we say when things don't change much [or at all]?

At around the same time last year, I blogged [whined is more like it] about how our yard was covered with dry leaves during the fall season? Well, same-o ,same-o. The little one and the big one [big daddy] raked our backyard to get rid of the eye sore. Not even half an hour later, the backyard was covered with yes, dry leave again. It's kind of useless actually to even try to get rid of them because the source of the problem is not being fixed. As simple as that.

The neighbor actually apologized for the mess but that's about it. It would have been a lot better if instead of apologizing, they can umm, clean their yard, maybe? Once every 2 weeks will be great. Even once a month will be great actually.But....they'd rather apologize than do that. Oh and he actually asked why we're not putting up a fence. Duh! We will ASAP....as soon as the budget permits of course. For now, we just have to live with it since there's no law against letting dry leaves sit on your yard.

Our Little Bat...

That's our little one on Halloween. She's the one who decided what she wanted since she's old enough to decide for herself. Last year she was Cinderella. She also decided on that one although we made the final decision since she kept changing her mind. But this year, she was really decided when she said she wanted to be a BAT. Take note....Bat and not batgirl that's why she has the 'bat wings' instead of a cape like batgirl.

We ordered the wings through Amazon.com but it's not sold by Amazon. It took about a month before we finally got the wings but it's worth the wait I guess since she got a lot of compliments. Next year, I may just convince her to use the same costume.... She wouldn't outgrow the wings anyway. The other parts of her costume are very easy to get since they're just ordinary clothes. But....we'll see!

How do you like our little 'creature of the night'?

Halloween Weekend and.....

It's [almost] the Halloween weekend already! The little one here can't wait for it of course. She's been itching to wear her costume. The last piece of the puzzle...costume, arrived earlier this week. It actually took the seller a month to ship the dang thing. I almost canceled my order because they couldn't give me the exact date they could ship it. The best I got was a guarantee that it will be here by Halloween. Well, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time because the piece of the costume we ordered from them is the one we can't find in any store here. One would probably ask...why not make it myself??? Simple. Because I CAN'T! Hubby can but he's way too busy at work to make it.

Anyway, it's here already and that's all that matters now. One thing I'll remember though...I probably won't order anything from those people again. Boo hoo...

Halloween will be the highlight of our weekend obviously...although there is [should be???] another reason reason why this weekend is something to look forward to. Any guesses??? It's something I'd rather not remember but the little one is making a big deal out of it...so, yes, it will be remembered whether I like it or not. Any clues yet what I'm talking about? Well...it's for me to know and for you to guess....how's that???

Advice Columns...

...are definitely not for men. Why not? Read on....

Dear Walter,

I hope you can help me here. The other day, I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't driven more than a mile down the road when the engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help.

When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbours daughter. I am 32, my husband is 34, and the neighbours daughter is 22. We have been married for ten years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past
six months.

I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was sacked from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed and worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counselling and I'm afraid I can't get through to him anymore.

Can you please help?

Sincerely, Sheila

-------------------------------

Dear Sheila:

A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no dirt in the fuel filter. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the injectors.

I hope this helps.

Walter.

Fingers Crossed!

I think I mentioned here that at the end of this year my high school batch will be celebrating our silver jubilee. It’s been 25 years since we did our high school graduation march and it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s that long already. Since I am thousands of miles away from my native land, I am not able to attend those monthly meetings with my high school friends to plan the event. I try to participate as much as I can via emails and through the blog I created specifically for this jubilee. Planning actually started in December of last year which gives us a year to organize everything. The event will not only involve us but the other alumni of the school thus the year-long preparations.

Sadly, I won’t be able to attend the event. It definitely bites but I feel it’s for our best interest. I’ve actually started scouring the internet for the most affordable airfares since early this year. I came across a few that are promising and I have them bookmarked just in case. Today, I also learned about Accor Hotels 3-Day Super Sale Asia Pacific. It’s a 3-day campaign that starts today, October 27 and will end on Friday, October 30. More than one million hotel rooms are on sale in the next 3 days for as low as $30 a night. I didn’t see the Philippines in the list of the countries where the sale is going on but Japan, Thailand and Hongkong are on the list. The husband wants to do a stop-over in one of these 3 countries if we’re able to travel to the Philippines. This promo is perfect for us since it coincides with the dates we’re planning to travel for my reunion. Sigh…hopefully, things will turn for the better [financially, of course] so we can already book our tickets and take advantage of this great promotion from Accor Hotels. Fingers crossed!
